Text of How-To Guide - Southeastern ARS Q&A
1. How to ask a question

  • Write your question in the ‘Ask my question’ box
  • Add a ‘tag’ [what is tagging?] to enable other users to find your question. You can choose from one that already exists or add a new one.
  • You may be given an alternative question that has already been asked. Choose the existing question or 'Ask Question'.
2.  How to answer a question

  • Select (i.e., hover your cursor over the question and click on it)  the question you want to answer.
  • Type your answer.
  • Select ‘Submit Answer’.
You can include links and images that you think will support your answer and help answer the question using the ‘Advanced Formatting’ button.

3. How to rate an answer:  You can rate an answer by simply selecting the ‘Great Answer’ or ‘Not Helpful’ icons at the bottom left corner of each answer section.

4. What is tagging a question? Tagging questions is a way to enable categorization of questions, helping questions and answers to be easily found as the site develops and grows.

5. How to ‘tag’ a question When you ask a question, you must create a ‘tag’ for it (as explained in question ‘4’). In the ‘tag’ box, once you have typed your question, enter your ‘tag’ - this is the subject area that question belongs to - for example ‘snow’. As you type a tag, you will see a list of suggestions matching text as you type with tags that already exist. Where possible, try to use tags that already exist.

6. How to add a link to an answer You can add links to your answers to add substance to them.

  • Follow the process to answer a question (as per question 2)
  • Click your curser within the blank box
  • Click on ‘Advanced Formatting’
  • Write your answer in the box
  • Highlight the 'http://' reference/URL name and numbers found at the top of the website you want to link to
  • On your answer page, highlight the keyword you want to act as the link
  • Select the ‘insert link’ icon from the tools at the top of the answer box
  • Right-click and 'Paste' the 'http://' reference/URL in the box that appears
  • Click OK.
The word that you wanted to use as a link should now appear in a different colour and be underlined.

7.How to add a picture or image to your answer Once you have followed the process to answer a question (as per question 2 above), ensure you have opened the tab ‘Advanced Formatting’ to view the tools.

  • Select the image of the tree - ‘upload a picture’.
  • A pop up window will appear.
  • Choose the way you want the image to appear (small corner image or page wide)
  • Select ‘choose File’
  • Select the picture or image you wish to use from your computer and select ‘choose’
  • Choose the ‘save’ button.
8. How to upload a picture to your profile
  • Log into your account
  • Go to ‘Settings’
  • Select ‘Profile Picture’ from the right hand set of links
  • Select ‘Choose File’ on the left hand side of the page
  • Choose your image from your computer files (the size and format is limited)
  • Select ‘Save Changes’
Your profile should now have a picture allocated to it.
